I am a new member to Veterans Holidays, and I have been on two trips through them. I am in college completing my degree, so cash is short. Veterans Holidays allowed me to find a place close to home without spending a fortune on hotels. Every place I have stayed at has been wonderful. The staff was wonderful and the service was out of this world. I have stayed at the Palm Beach Shores Resort in West Palm Beach, FL, and Mizner Place in Weston, FL. Waterside by Spinnaker on Hilton Head Island was a great place for the family. We had a huge 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom unit - so much space for everyone. Close enough to walk/ride the bikes to the beach. Close to Coligny Plaza. Make sure you see Greg Russell under the Liberty Oak Tree in Sea Pine Plantation - alot of family fun and it's free too! We love Hilton Head and we loved Waterside! WOW!! My family and I used GETO for the first time this summer, what a deal. We went to Summer Bay in the Orlando, FL area. When we left it was for just one week, after being there we decided to extend our vacation for a second week. So we then headed to the beach for week 2, we used the other travel oppertunities (hotel) that you offer. My 14yr. old son said "it's the best vacation ever" and I agreed. Thank you so much for making vacations affordable for military families! We have enjoyed AFV club condos at the beach and in the mountains. It has been wonderful to have a place with plenty of room and also a fully equipped kitchen. We just returned from Virginia where we were in a great location to sightsee, hike and just relax. We recently moved our daughter to The College of William and Mary and used the AFVClub to book a week at the Powhattan Plantation in Williamsburg, VA. Upon our arrival, the first question my husband ask is "are you sure we can afford to stay here?" It was wonderful, we had a two bedroom (sleeps 6) downstairs unit. It was clean, the staff were extremely friendly. We had a hot tub off of the living room / master bedroom, deck, steam bath, full kitchen, fireplace in the living room.
The dining area was formally set when we arrived (nice touch), and we had a washer/dryer. Since we spent most of the time moving our daughter into her apartment, we did not take advantage of most of the things the resort had to offer; however, we did enjoy touring the old plantation house. We stayed at the Cypress Pointe Grand Villas in Orlando last September 2005. We were originally scheduled to be there in August but Hurricaine Ivan postponed our visit. We arrived the day before Hurricaine Francis struck Florida. The first 2 days at the resort we were obviously stuck inside during the hurricane. The resort saw some damage but held up pretty well. We never lost power and the accomodations were wonderful. We have stayed at 3 separate resorts in the Veterans Holiday group and by far this one is our favorite. The resort is top notch and very close to everything. When we do come back to Orlando to visit we are definately scheduling our visit at the Cypress Pointe Grand Villas. The staff was very helpful and cleaned up the resort as quickly and efficiently as possible. What a wonderful program this is for veterans and their families. At a time when there is so much death and destruction around the world and with our troops stretched so thin this is a wonderful respit for military and veterans families to get away from it all and enjoy some quality time together Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!! My families first experience with RCI/GETravelOp was July 30th to August 6th 2005 at the Vacation Village at Bonaventure in Weston, Florida. This resort is beautiful, clean, well maintained, and run by a helpful and friendly staff. The condo was very clean, spacious, and equipped with everything we needed to feel at home and to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Thank you very much to RCI/ GETravelOp for a exceptional benefit for military/government employees. We highly recommend The Vacation Village at Bonaventure and are already planning a return visit. Also THANK YOU to the wonderful staff at RCI/GETravelOp who were very helpful and friendly making our first reservations. Our Family Used AFVC this summer for our vacation to the big island of Hawaii. The customer service representatives were great when we made our reservations and answered our many questions. The Kona Coast Resort was phenomenal! The two-bedroom condo had an ocean view as well as a fairway view.
The Condo was literally bigger than our base house, and in like new condition! Although this was our first time using AFVC it will defiantly not be the last! Sherwood Brown, Fairchild AFB, WA

This is the best 'benefit' to all military families, in my opinion!
We have been to two resorts in Kissimmee, FL: Silver Lake and Summer Bay and I have to say that our jaws dropped upon entering our 2 bedroom units at BOTH resorts! How can it be so cheap? Full kitchens, whirlpool tubs, washer and dryer in the unit, pool with cabana/snacks/drinks - are you kidding me? Forget staying on site (well, not Shades of Green, hehe) for my money, I'll take a 5-star resort on a motel budget!
I also must say that we did have a little snag trying to check-in to one resort, because we had made a last-minute change from a 1-BR to a 2-BR unit about a week before our trip (we did have to pay a fee to change, it was still worth it, though). We called AFVC directly, to help the front desk clear things up and the operator was SUPER nice and EXTREMELY helpful! The mix-up was straightened out in MINUTES!
And I feel compelled to let the other vacationers know that not once have we ever been 'pressured' to attend the time-share presentation! One resort didn't even bother asking us, they just had a desk set up in the lobby for those interested. The other resort called one morning and offered us a $100 dollar Publix giftcard if we were interested, but when we told her we were not (already bought our groceries), she was still very friendly and gave us a number in case we changed our minds. They never called back or made us feel like we owed them a tour of the resort. It says right on the AFVC website that you shouldn't take a tour unless you are truly interested in buying into the timeshare property, anyway, and WHO WOULD with a wonderful service like this available to us???
I've also purchased a week for a friend of mine and her family (in Georgia) and although it was more 'rustic' where they stayed, they said it was still very much worth the money. She said she had no pressure to tour anything at that one either.
I recommend this service to ALL the military wives/families I know and it amazes me how many have no idea this even exists...I'm so glad I found you AFVC! We save tons of money!
Tip: You can search the RCI website (or just google it) to get more information on the resorts listed here at AFVC, including floorplans and pictures in some cases. I've learned that if I book a resort that is graded "Gold Crown" by RCI, that these are the ones that are TOP NOTCH!
